Mangum Community Hospital Welcomes Dr. Richard W. Schafer D.O., FACOFP To Their Team
Mangum, Oklahoma (November 23, 2007) Mangum Community Hospital welcomes Dr. Richard Schafer to the hospital medical staff. Dr Schafer, an osteopathic physician, understands the needs and concerns of rural healthcare patients.
As an Osteopathic physician he treats the whole body versus an isolated ache. With a true understanding of a whole body healing approach, a special focus is placed on the musculoskeletal system and how each part of the body affects another. Dr Schafer provides disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment strategies for his patients.
Dr. Schafer attended Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and Oklahoma State University for his undergraduate degree. He graduated in 1993 from Oklahoma State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. There he received an award for Outstanding Graduate by the College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, National Honorary Osteopathic Fraternity.
Dr. Schafer did his internship at the Tulsa Regional Center from 1993-1994. He is ACLS, BLS, and PALS certified. He received his Board Certification from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians in May of 2001.
Dr. Schafer is a member of the American Medical Association, Oklahoma Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, Oklahoma Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He was awarded “Doctor of the Day” by the Oklahoma State Senate in 1996 and 2004. When he first started working he received the “Rookie Physician of the Year” award by the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association.
He is a Board Member of the Harmon County Health Department in Hollis, Oklahoma and previously served as the Medical Examiner/Coroner in Harmon County. He has also served as the Medical Director of the Southwest Oklahoma Ambulance Authority.
