New Clinic, Renovations, Advanced Training Underway at Mangum Community Hospital

Mangum, Oklahoma (August 15, 2008) With the addition of Jan Winter, new CEO of Mangum Community Hospital (MCH), exciting changes are underway for both staff and patients at MCH.

Mangum Community Hospital team members recently had the opportunity to participate in a two-day ACLS, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support training class.

The American Heart ACLS course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient.  Through the ACLS course, providers are able to enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiac emergencies.  ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.  The course is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation by healthcare providers.

“This course offered our team the opportunity to reinforce necessary life-saving skills and provided a chance for team-building education and strategy” explained Katy Baden, RN, Director of Nursing, Mangum Community Hospital.

In addition to staff education, the Mangum Community Hospital Swing Bed Activity Room has recently been remodeled.  The room received a complete renovation which included new décor, furniture and activity equipment.  A Swing Bed is a term that describes a hospital bed that can “swing” from an acute care bed to a “skilled” nursing bed offering an intermediate level of care when ordered by your physician.  If a patient’s condition warrants, the same bed can “swing” back to offer acute care services without moving the patient.  Swing Beds are designed to provide a wide range of physical therapy and rehabilitative services, including activities of daily living which help regain mobility and self-sufficiency.  The activity room is used for swing bed patients to practice activities of daily living prior to being released from the hospital.  Activities include games, crafts, baking and much more.
Continued growth and development is a top priority for Mangum Community Hospital.  “We are dedicated to providing excellent healthcare to Mangum and surrounding communities, and our commitment to staff education and facility improvement are key components in providing that care” stated Jan Winter, CEO.
